Tervetuloa taas tuhoamaan jämälankoja sukkaneulonnan ja joulunodotuksen parissa. Viime vuoden tapaan luvassa on armotonta käskytystä ja valmiit raitasukat jouluaattona. Panoksia on kuitenkin korotettu ja halukkaille on tarjolla myös kirjoneuleraitoja. Kalenteri on tänä vuonna myös kaksikielinen. Te voitte edelleen neuloa sukkanne suomenkielisin ohjein, mutta tarjoamme osallistumismahdollisuuden myös englantia taitaville neulojatovereille ympäri muailman.
Blogin yläreunasta ja tämän linkin takaa löytyy ohje varpaista varteen -sukkiin afterthought-kantapäällä. Voit neuloa sukat haluamasi paksuisesta langasta, mutta ohjeen silmukkamäärät soveltuvat fingering-vahvuiselle (400m/100g) langalle ja tiheydelle 32s=10cm. Sukat tulevat etenemään hieman eri tahtia ja tämän takia niitä ei voi neuloa yhdellä pyöröpuikolla, joten varaathan kahdet sukka- tai pyöröpuikot.
Joulukalenterin ajan blogiin ilmestyy joka aamu klo 04.00 ohjeet päivän raidan neulomiseen. Päivämäärä määrää kerrosten lukumäärän ja me ohjeistamme, kuinka päivän väri valitaan. Kutakin päivää kohden neulotaan siis eripaksuinen raita. Päivän värivalintojen suhteen ei kannata olla turhan tiukkapipoinen. Jos varastosta ei löydy juuri oikean väristä lankaa, valitse lähin mahdollinen. Tällä kertaa mukana on ajoittain myös kirjoneuletta. Sitäkään ei kannata säikähtää, vaan sen voi halutessaan korvata ihan tavallisella raidalla. Kärjet, kantapäät ja varren resorit tehdään erikseen. Sukkien räsymattoista yleisilmettä rauhoittaakseen, ne voi tehdä kaikki samalla värillä. Jos sukkiinsa kaipaa vielä enemmän yhtenäistä ilmettä, voi jokaisen väriraidan väliin neuloa yhden kerroksen kärkien ja kantapäiden värillä.
Kaikki tarvittavat ohjeet varpaista varteen -tekniikkaan, jälkikäteen tehtyihin kantapäihin ja raitasukkien langanpäiden päättelyyn löytyvät tuolta sukkaohjesivulta ja osa käydään vielä sukkien edistyessä tarkemmin läpi. Niitä ei siis tarvitse etukäteen osata.
Käskytystä seuraamalla saamme kaikki omannäköiset sukat ja olisimme valtaisan iloisia, jos nappaisit kuvan valmiista sukistasi ja lähettäisit sen meille, niin kokoamme sukkakuvista kollaasin. Viime vuoden sukkakollaasia voi ihastella täällä. Joulun jälkeen arvomme taas halukkaiden kesken omat kalenterisukkamme (kokoa 38).

Welcome to the Scrap Yarn Sock Advent Calendar! Do you have heaps of fingering weight scrap yarn lying around? Here's your chance to put some of it to good use and get you a pair of cozy rag rug stripe socks.
As you have probably noticed, our blog is in Finnish but not to worry; for the duration of the advent calendar, the posts related to it will also be in English. The basic idea is that we will give you instructions for your basic toe up socks and then every day during the advent calendar you'll find instructions for choosing the color of the next stripe here on this blog. If you wish, you can check out last year's calendar posts here - though they are in Finnish.
In the top bar of the blog and behind this link are instructions for toe up socks with an afterthought heel. You can knit your socks with the yarn of your choosing but the instructions are written for fingering weight yarn and 32sts=10cm/4" gauge. The socks will proceed at a different speed so you will need two circular needles if you wish to use magic loop technique.
Every day starting December 1st, at 4 a.m. (UTC+2) we will post the instructions for choosing the stripe color of the day. The date determines the number of rows for the stripe and we determine the color. So you will have a different sized stripe to knit each day. You shouldn't feel too constricted with the color instructions. If you don't have the exact color you need, just use the one closest to it that you have. Also, some days may contain stranded knitting but if you feel it's a bit hard, you can skip the stranded part and knit a regular stripe instead.
The toes, heels and cuffs aren't included in the color instructions so you can use a color of your choice. To get a more unified look for your socks, you can use the same color for all of them. If you feel like you would still like a calmer look, you could always knit one row in your toe color after each day's stripe.
All the needed techniques are instructed in the pattern and some more detailed directions are given as we come to those parts in the socks. So don't worry, you don't need to know them in advance.
By following this advent calendar, we should all end up with unique looking socks on Christmas eve. We would absolutely love it if you could send us a picture of your finished socks so we can make a collage of them.
